Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly declined to enter the game against Tottenham as a substitute, according to Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag.
The 2-0 win over Spurs on Wednesday was without a doubt the strongest overall performance under the Dutchman, but the 37-year-early old’s departure has dominated the post-game discussion.
Before the clock reached 90 minutes, Ronaldo hurriedly left Old Trafford, prompting Ten Hag to bench the forward for Saturday’s game against Chelsea.
The outcome wasn’t even close to being the game’s biggest talking point, though. Ronaldo, a United forward, made headlines after he strode out of the tunnel just before the game’s conclusion.
Following the issuance of a statement from United in which it was announced that Ronaldo would miss this weekend’s match against Chelsea as part of his punishment, speculation has been rampant as to what actually transpired.
Erik ten Hag, who spoke at the pre-game news conference, stated that Ronaldo declined to enter the field of play when asked.
